DeKalb Co. Labor Market Supports Business Development

July 18, 2018

Abundant worker availability in the DeKalb County labor market has enabled Target and 3M staff significant expansions in DeKalb, IL.

In 2015, Target completed a $50 million conversion of its regional distribution center into an upstream distribution center serving one-third of the U.S. With the help of the DeKalb Office of the Illinois workNet Center, Target doubled its workforce from 350 to 700 in 2016, and added another 300 this year.

In 2016, 3M moved into a $40 million, 978,120 SF distribution center developed by Clayco/Venture One Real Estate in Park 88. They hired 350 new workers in 2017, increasing employment to 950.

The Illinois workNet Center, operated by Kishwaukee College for the Kane Kendall DeKalb Workforce Development Board, assists employers by posting and promoting available positions, hosting job fairs, assisting with candidate screening and providing worker training.
